Like many of you reading this page, I had struggled with my weight for a number of years and following my operations things got worse. I tried a whole range of different diets and although I often had some short term success I didn’t find any single solution that felt “right for me”.  There were either too many rules (something Brad Pilon, the author of Eat Stop Eat, calls The Dirty Dozen Obsessive Compulsive Dieting Habits) or the process was complicated and relied on the additional purchase of lots of expensive additional supplements and other “extras” or in some cases I lost weight but didn’t have the energy to keep my workout regime going.

My Experience With Eat Stop Eat

Before I discovered the Eat Stop Eat system I had already tried some very extreme fasting. A few years ago I went to a fasting clinic where I lost around 12 lbs in a week……needless to say this didn’t last long! I knew this wasn’t a sensible way to go about losing weight or getting into shape but it did alert me to the idea of fasting as a method of weight loss.
A friend knew of my struggle and pointed me in the direction of the Eat Stop Eat program. At first I was a bit skeptical not to mention concerned that the method would mean I had to go for long periods without eating or would require some other ‘strange’ activities but I was pretty determined to get back in shape so I went ahead, bought the book and am very happy that I did.

What Is Eat Stop Eat?

You might be wondering what is Eat Stop Eat and intermittent fasting all about and how will it help you with your weight and training goals?

Intermittent fasting is the increasingly popular scientifically-backed method of eating (NOT dieting) whereby you take small fasting breaks to encourage weight and fat loss. It is an incredibly simple concept and thoroughly explained in the Eat Stop Eat book, in fact the first 85 pages are devoted to helping you understand the science behind the process and why the diet industry doesn’t want you to discover simple methods like this.I won’t go into all the details here but essentially all you need to do is take occasional 24 hour breaks from eating.

For me reading Eat Stop Eat was a breath of fresh air. It was a totally new way of looking at eating, weight loss and exercise and not simply another book full of regurgitated fluff and filler, In fact nothing could be further from the truth as I said the first chunk of the book is all about the science behind the Eat Stop Eat method which I found extremely helpful. It is a fact that once you understand a concept then you will have more commitment in seeing it through.

Some Myths About Fasting 

In just one short chapter of Eat Stop Eat Brad blows out of the water some of the popular misconceptions about intermittent fasting. He explains that it. 

  • DOES Not kill your metabolism

  • DOES NOT deprive your body of nutrients

  • DOES NOT create insulin surge and weight gain

  • DOES NOT result in wasted muscle tone.

Indeed, as a graduate in human biology and nutritional sciences himself Brad goes on to show how scientific evidence is in direct opposition to the misinformation found in most diet books and on the internet.

But don’t think you have to get bogged down in all the science behind this, one of the (many) things I like about this eBook is that it is written in a very easily accessible manner. Brad is a big fan of the keep it simple philosophy as he says “the less complicated a diet is, the better it’s chances of helping you obtain long lasting weight loss”.

Of course Eat Stop Eat is more than just a ‘diet’ it is a simple lifestyle adjustment that can help you lose weight, build muscle, and improve your health WITHOUT having to resort to those guilt-inducing ‘rules of eating’, taking pills or powders or opting for drastic surgery.

What About The Daily Eat Stop Eat Schedule?

If you have suffered the frustrations that come with most diet programs then the Eat Stop Eat system will be a revelation for you. There are no phases, no point systems, no weighing foods, and no foods that are ever off limits! You do not spend the day stressing about what types of food you are eating and all the rest of the scare tactics dreamt up by the diet industry.


The Eat Stop Eat method is so straightforward there is no reason why you won’t succeed. It comprises these three simple parts;

  • Eat as you would normally, while trying to obey Brad’s Golden Guideline of Eating

  • Take small 24 hour fasts – the program totally flexible there are no rules about when you should do this

  • Do resistance training 2 to 3 times a week.

Can I Build Muscle On The Eat Stop Eat Program?

Yes absolutely. When I started using Eat Stop Eat I was actually more interested in getting my body back in shape than losing weight. I had been laid up for around a year following hip and knee surgery and had lost any toning that I had not to mention gained around 30lb. To my great satisfaction following the Eat Stop Eat  has enabled me to achieve both those goals.

The Eat Stop Eat eBook includes a whole chapter devoted to how to workout when you are on the program. As Brad says in this section

” The goal of weight training while following the Eat Stop Eat lifestyle is to work your muscles in a way that promotes growth and preserves muscle mass while you are losing body fat”

The core of the exercise program revolves around resistance training rather than cardio workouts. I didn’t realize until I read Eat Stop Eat that all the boring and repetitive cardio sessions I was doing have been scientifically proven to do little in the way of fat-burning. No more mindless staring at MTV on the treadmill for me!

Why I Like Eat Stop Eat

As you will have gathered I am a big fan of Brad and the Eat Stop Eat program. Maybe that’s because I am something of a scientist at heart and really like the philosophy behind the method -I find that when I understand something it is easier to keep going. That was important to me when I started because at first it did seem a bit weird not eating for a 24 hour period but I soon found that if I fasted from 6pm to 6pm the following day then that was not too difficult – it just meant not eating breakfast and lunch which is not that difficult especially when you are committed to a goal.

I also like the simplicity of the Eat Stop Eat method. I’m not one for endless dietary rules, weighing of foods and all that stuff. The Eat Stop Eat program is incredibly easy to implement, there are very few rules and it is totally flexible which makes it a no brainer to fit around my schedule.

Although there is a whole chapter on how to incorporate exercise it would be even better if the Eat Stop Eat book included a specific training schedule but if you already know something about resistance training then this won’t be a problem for you.

If you want to get really nerdy about the whole concept behind Eat Stop Eat and why intermittent fasting is such a powerful method for weight control then the book includes an appendix with over 120 references to scientific papers that support the philosophy – can’t say i’ve gone down that road but it’s all there if you want to.

Finally, I would say that if you are not prepared to look at weight control and exercise in a totally new way the Eat Stop Eat is not for you. However, if you are open-minded and fed up with all the hyped up junk that the diet industry throws out then give Eat Stop Eat a try. As the saying goes “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always gotten”

In my experience Eat Stop Eat is a weight loss and fat reduction program that works. My suggestion is to give Eat Stop Eat a go for yourself and see what I mean. You will be amazed at what you will learn.
